The Dog Shipper Gambling Game

Pawpaws Express - how to spot pet scams

Dog shipper, pet transporter, pet relocation company.
They all blend together in the sea of people throwing their hand in the air for a shot at your money.
But that’s exactly what they are, collectors of money, not actual pet transportation specialists.

Believe me, I understand, moving a pet can get pricey.
Especially when going cross country or to another country altogether, and sometimes it seems like you just have to take a chance and hope for the best.
So you turn to one of the bidding sites where people compete to be the lowest bidder on your pet move.

We’ve spent time on those sites in the early days, and it didn’t take long to figure out that people were packing animals in like cargo or cord wood to make it happen.
Most aren’t pet transporters at all, they’re just shipping companies looking to pad their profits, with no pet insurance or experience.

To them it’s not a pet, it’s a package, and it’s treated like one.

Over the years we’ve seen “pet transporters” come and go by the hundreds.
Many times, people get on these sites out of desperation, they underestimate the real cost of a transport and get into trouble.

We’ve had calls where a low bid transporter simply left their pet somewhere in the middle of the country, and needed us to go get them and bring them home.
There have been cases where the transporter called and demanded more money because they were out of gas, broken down, or “lost” the dog because it slipped out of its collar.

I understand that you gotta do what you gotta do sometimes, but even if it’s not us, please pick a reliable transport company for your pet.

So be safe, be thorough and get the right person for the job.
